Visual Arts Auditions
Art students are to submit the following drawings in a small portfolio:
A. Nine Black-and-white drawings from observation, as follows:
- Five nature drawings showing values (shading). Some examples are laves, fruits, landscapes, etc.
- Four figure drawings showing values:
- A person in motion (walking, dancing etc.);
- A person sitting (reading, resting, etc.);
- An animal, such as a pet or other example;
- A self-portrait, looking in the mirror.
B. Three color drawings or paintings of realistic or abstract works. (Slides and/or digital files accepted for oversized works.)
C. The applicant may inclde sketchook and photography work.
D. The applicant will be given 10 minutes to draw a still-life set up as part of the audition.
Students submitting only photography are to submit the following prints (conventional or digital) in a small portfolio:
A. Two black-and-white or color prints showing shadows.
B. Three black-and-white or color prints showing use of lighting angles:
- Front-lit
- Back-lit
- Side-lit
C. Seven black-and-white or color prints, as follows:
- Two prints showing people in motion (dancing, walking, playing sports, etc.);
- Two prints showing landscapes and/or cityscapes;
- Three prints of the student's choice.
