Journalism Auditions

The new Journalism art strand is a culmination of both the minds and arts; students will perform at their best discovering new ways to display their creative and inquisitive nature.  As the idea of what the mass media is continues to evolve and consume our world, it is imperative for our youth to learn to decipher media stereotypes and trends.

After being introduced into this world, students at A&M will learn how create their own traditions and document A&M history.  Either through “The Final Frontier,” the school paper, or “Atria,” the yearbook, students will become published artist before they even graduate.

Students are welcomed to audition to this academy by completing the following:

1. Three teacher referrals explaining why you would be an asset to our program. Leadership, creativity, and initiative are important qualities that should be addressed

2. Two writing samples or 400 words or more:
     *  A feature story connecting any national issue to student life, how are children affected by what is going on in the world.
     *  An editorial or feature story

3. Conduct an interview with a child about the importance of art programs in schools. Bring your notes, you are being tested to see how well you can conduct an interview.

4. Prepare a few appropriate questions to ask us and conduct an onsite interview about anything BUT school.

 5. Bring either candid pictures that you have taken at school events, any graphics that you have created, or any drawings that would be proper for either publication.
